Pasta - The Quick And Healthy Food

Have you ever been in Italy, the land of pasta? Me neither. But fortunately, we also get a great variety of pasta here. You really get many different types of pasta nowadays. You get the standard pasta. Then you get whole wheat pasta. And you get all kind of fancy stuff like spinach, butternut, soy and rice pasta. Last but not least, the pasta industry now also caters for people with various allergies: They offer, for example, egg-free, gluten-free and wheat-free pasta. You even get some of these in different shapes, as spaghetti or lasagna.

Store your pasta in a dry cool place. In the original package, it can easily last for a year and more. Just whole wheat pasta can’t be kept for long.

Pasta is a great thing if you need to make food quickly. It does not take much time to boil the water. I usually boil it with the kettle, pour it in the pot and throw the pasta in short after that. Depending on the type and size of your pasta, it needs to boil 3 to max. 15 minutes. In that time, you can prepare a quick sauce, and done you are. Another trick for quick pasta is to cook a bigger amount of pasta, deepfreeze it and then heat the required amount up in boiling salt water. But this is only likely to safe you time if you also prepare the sauce in advance. Maybe you make it the day before and keep it in the fridge. Or you go for a sauce that will only take you 5 or 10 minutes to prepare. Still, I think it won’t make so much of a difference. But maybe it will be useful for you somewhen, even if it’s just that you can’t use your left-over pasta now and want to keep it for later.

Usually, pasta is made of wheat and eggs and therefore almost fat-free. If you are on a low-fat diet, pasta is definitely on your menu. Just make sure your sauce does not contain much fat, and preferably combine it with lots of vegetables to provide you with vitamins and minerals. Especially whole wheat pasta will be good for you because it fills you quicker, so you will eat less. Another great thing is that pastas carbohydrates are absorbed over a longer period by the body, thus pasta will keep you going for much longer than chocolate and sweets whose sugar is absorbed rather quickly and then you feel hungry again. Experts recommend that if you plan to do sports, rather eat a portion of pasta before than anything else.
